Duke of Edinburgh Award
Congratulations to Harold, who became the first DLD student to achieve their Duke of Edinburgh award since the College became a Duke of Edinburgh Award Directly Licensed Centre!
Duke of Edinburgh award scheme is a non-competitive, internationally well-recognized program designed to encourage, motivate and support young people (between the ages of 14 - 24) to develop positive and life skills as well participating in challenges outside of the classroom. You achieve your awards by completing personal programmes of activities in four sections (five if you’re going for Gold) – Volunteering, Physical, Skills, Expedition and for Gold, a Residential.
However, for the first time, DLD has become part of the Duke of Edinburgh programme, co-operating 'directly licensed centre' which means it allows the students to complete the Duke of Edinburgh award during their time at the College. Here we have Harold, the first student at DLD to achieve a Duke of Edinburgh award, his Bronze award. Harold has now moved up to the Silver award and is already progessing well to achieve his Silver award.
This following Easter, Harold will be joined by 10 other DLD students who will begin on the very first DLD Silver Expedition and DLD College Alumni network are very excited and cannot wait to hear how it goes! Good luck!
